Biography
Katherine is fascinated by human behaviour, both as individuals and in groups, something she has had a chance to observe over many years in business as a director and consultant in finance, governance and responsibility. Having a particular interest in how we come to accept specific constructs of our society, she shares with many a concern for how we humans perceive our role in this complex and beautiful planet which we inhabit along with a wonderful diversity of other species and plant life.
On leaving school, Katherine chose the business degree option above the place she had won at architectural college. Nevertheless, she has retained a strong interest in art, architecture and engineering design throughout her career, at one stage in the 1980s for instance, being both the Finance Director for Heathrow Airport and also the Chair of the Airport’s Design Committee. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.
Although she has produced paintings and sculptures from time to time, she has only recently come to recognise how important painting can be as a means of communication, to convey the perspectives and views she has built up over the years. So she now devotes much of her time to painting, while studying part time at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. An exhibition of her work ‘Thinking Beyond…’ takes place from 10th to 22nd November 2008 at ROA Gallery, 5b Pall Mall – Royal Opera Arcade, London SW1Y 4UY www.roa-galleria.com She will be exhibiting alongside sculptor Belinda Opie www.belindaopie.com.
Katherine’s work has an atmospheric quality reflecting her awareness of the transcendent and she says “I get the greatest spiritual sense from listening to the dawn chorus echo through woodland or watching a rainbow against an angry sky” Her work can be broadly categorised into 2 main series.
Thinking beyond and Challenging | Mood, Landscape and Animal spirit.
